Lead Service Line Replacement Program
The Springfield Water & Sewer Commission (SWSC) is taking action to make Springfield a lead-safe city. We are committed to protecting the health of its citizens from hazards caused by lead service lines.
The Lead Service Line Replacement Program is dedicated to removing all lead service lines within our service area, which includes the City of Springfield and Washington County.
Although SWSC has no water transmission or distribution mains made from lead, some of the water lines serving individual properties are composed of the toxic metal. Roughly 1200 lead lines are located within SWSC’s service area. The utility has set a goal of removing these lines during the next 15 years.
This effort will take the help of our staff, customers, public officials and funding agencies.
